Frequently Asked Questions

Part 1: For Institutions / Part 2: For Learners

Part 1: For Institutions

How does Field Literacy Lab align with the National Credit Framework (NCrF)?

Our programs are designed to map directly to the experiential learning and field-work credits required under the NCrF guidelines, simplifying the credit-transfer process for your Registrar.

What is the institutional commitment required?

We offer flexible partnership models – ranging from one-off specialized field audits for specific departments to long-term MOUs for annual student cohorts.

How do you ensure student safety during field immersions?

Every field site is pre-vetted. We maintain a strict student-to-mentor ratio and coordinate with local administrative and healthcare entities at every fieldwork location.

Can the fieldwork streams be customized for our specific curriculum?

Yes. While our four streams are the foundation, we can tailor the audit parameters to focus more on legal, engineering, or management aspects depending on your college’s specialization.

Does our faculty need to accompany the students during Phase 2?

While not mandatory, we encourage faculty participation. It serves as an excellent Faculty Development Program (FDP). For every batch of 30 students, we extend a complimentary onboarding for one faculty member. However, our mentors lead the immersion, allowing your faculty to observe or participate without the burden of logistical management.

How do we verify the “Notional Hours” for our internal credit audits?

Each student has a unique “Digital Ledger” on our portal. This logs time spent in Phase 1 (Archive) and Phase 3 (Reporting). For Phase 2, we provide a signed attendance and performance log. These can be exported as a verified PDF for your Registrar’s office.

Who owns the Intellectual Property (IP) of the FVPB reports generated?

We follow a Universal Data Sharing Model. The student and the institution retain the right to use the findings for academic papers, while the metadata-tagged report contributes to our collective research archive to help future learners.

What is the lead time for an MOU and Site Allocation?

Given the nature of our site selection, we recommend beginning the consultation 8–12 weeks before the intended immersion date.

Part 2: For Learners

Do I need a specific background to join a stream?

No. Field Literacy is interdisciplinary. Whether you are an engineer or a journalist, you will be trained in the “systemic audit” method relevant to your discipline.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. Upon successful completion of the field immersion and submission of the audit report, you will receive a Field Literacy Certification detailing the competencies mastered.

How long are the field immersions?

Our standard immersive programs typically last between 10 to 14 days on-site, preceded by a week of remote conceptual briefing.

Can I use this for my final year internship project?

Most universities recognize our intensive field audits as valid internship credits. We provide the necessary documentation to support your college’s requirements.

What if I don’t have a high-speed internet connection for Phase 1?

Answer: The Archive is optimized for low-bandwidth environments. While the “Cinematic Library” is high-definition, we provide “Lite” versions of all video modules to ensure every learner can complete their pre-study regardless of their location.

I don’t speak the local language of the (undisclosed) site. Will I be able to audit?

Answer: Yes. Field Literacy is about reading the system, not just the language. We provide translation support where necessary, but a large part of the pedagogy is learning to “read” the physical landscape and infrastructure through non-verbal evidence.

Is the field immersion physically demanding?

Answer: The immersion involves significant walking and active observation in varied terrains (forests, coasts, or urban sites). We provide a “Field Readiness Guide” 30 days before the trip to help you prepare.

Can I access the Archive after my chosen days of immersion ends?

Answer: Your enrollment includes extended access (usually 1 to 3 months depending on your chosen days of immersion). This allows you to use the Archive material to refine your FVAR report or to use the data for your final year university thesis.
